Anacaona was the only known female Cacique of the island of Quisqueya, now known as Dominican Republic and Haiti. As a queen she married a Cacique Caonabo and had children with him.
This sculpture is probably the only one that puts emphasis to her wooden septum piercing. This is important to me because Anacaona was the first woman of my family. My great grandmother from my mother’s side was direct decedent of her blood and is the sole reason I have a septum piercing:
To remind myself that in my veins runs the blood of a warrior Queen and King.
